“Tell them you’re okay with $40k per year. If not, you won’t get a job.”

I paced around in my living room in relief. I had just gotten off the phone for a job interview.

My mother came into the room and asked how it went. “Great!” I exclaimed.

The woman who interviewed me asked what my preferred salary would be if I got the job. I said to my mom, “I told her $60k per year.”

She gasped in embarrassment.

I got scolded by her and even my sister. They didn’t like how I asked for $60k out the gate like that.

“You need to gain more experience before you ask for that kind of money.”

Ya right.

I saw this amazing post on LinkedIn a few days ago. It sums up all of my feelings on this situation.

This shit is getting ridiculous.
