If You’re Worried About Your Article Views, You’re Killing Snails
We’re all snail killers.
Dopamine is a neurotransmitter within your brain that tells us when to feel pleasure from certain activities. But it’s also a diuretic (any substance that promotes the increased production of urine). This substance is found in a lot of plants. Dopamine, like salt, causes mollusks to secrete water and dry out.
But as long as we feel pleasure, nothing matters. Writers feel dopamine boosts with metrics such as money, book sales, followers, etc.
The most common dopamine boost for writers is simple — views.
Writers Still Yearn For Attention Even if it’s Not Profitable
I’m not exempt from this.
I used to check my stats daily. The constant pressure of being a blogger who rakes in the dough puts you in a state of euphoria when you lay eyes on a viral article. Once your start checking your views, you can’t stop.
