Does art need to fit mainstream preferences?
Ever since I watched the trailor for the “Birds of Prey” movie coming out later in the year, I’ve seen that most of the people I follow online are also pretty excited for the movie too.
Then my mind blanked and I thought about a question I’ve been wondering for such a long time.
Why is Marvel more preferred over DC?
If you don’t prefer DC over Marvel, you’re just like all of the other Marvel obsessed fans and you don’t appreciate “real” art. Either you prefer Solange’s music (Beyonce’s sister) or Beyonce’s and if you like Beyonce’s music more you’re just like all of the “others”.
One of the automatic disqualifications for something to be considered art is mainstream appeal.
Art can turn into a huge mob mentality sometimes. But does that take anything away from the art itself?
Some people just want to be “different” for the sake of being “different”.
I’ve been to a concert with this type of crowd.
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t do this to knock anyone’s authenticity. I consider myself a “weirdo” like the rest of them.
