Don’t Document Your Memories Like This

Does your life come down to one picture?

I always hated taking pictures.

My face looks weird and my voice sounds absolutely horrible in a recording. I never put myself on camera because of this.

Every time someone recorded me, I’d feel super uncomfortable and incredibly shy. So instead of documenting my memories with a camera like everyone else, I decided to put down my phone and write out my thoughts in a journal.

Why?

I stopped documenting with my phone because journaling my experiences has something that a picture or video could never get right.

You remember things better when you process them.

Writing has always been a way for me to process my thoughts. It’s like therapy.

I’m an introverted person and a horrible public speaker. But one thing I’ve always noticed with writing is that it requires you to think.

You have to think before you write.

Whereas taking a picture is something you can do in the moment. You don’t have to think twice about a picture unless it looks “ugly” and you want to retake it.

But it’s a lot easier to to put a filter on a picture as opposed to writing out a paragraph…
