The story that turned my aspirations around.

I played basketball ever since I was in the first grade.

Then I pressured my Grandma into buying me my first basketball shortly afterwards.

This quickly turned into a large talent I didn’t know I had. So I continued playing basketball up until the 6th grade.

My mom probably still thinks this was a dumb decision. She was sure I would make it to the W.N.B.A. and be a shoe in.

But there’s a few plays that I made in basketball that destroyed my aspirations of continuing.

Play 1: I want to be in the “real” N.B.A.

I know this sounds ignorant but bear with me.

Since I started playing basketball at a very young age, I just assumed that everyone, no matter what gender, played basketball together.

I would see legends like Lebron James and Michael Jordan on my TV screen and think “I wanna play basketball with them one day”.

This fantasy continued up until 5th grade.

Then I started to understand the fact that women are underrepresented in the sports industry and even more in the basketball industry.
